Spirit of Blackness: Weathering and Black Health

Spirit of Blackness is a virtual space where Black folks come together to connect, deepen, and explore questions that pertain to our spiritual experience as Black people.

Weathering is a phenomenon rooted in history of marginalization; repeated exposure to socioeconomic adversity, political marginalization, racism, and perpetual discrimination that harms our health. This leads to slow crumbling of health that leads to systemic inequalities and generational trauma and has a name that you should know about. Scientists now call this repeated exposure that kills in slow less obvious ways weathering or being weathered.
